Seabuckthorn is a collective name for the plant and its fruit. Belonging to Elaeagnaceae Hippophae, it is a deciduous shrub with characteristics such as drought tolerance, anti-sandstorm, and the ability to survive salinized land, so it is widely used for soil and water conservation. It is distributed in the north, northwest, southwest and other places of China. Seabuckthorn is a medicinal and edible plant. Seabuckthorn’s root, stem, leaf, flower, fruit (especially, fruit is rich in nutrients and bioactive substances) can be widely used in many areas of the national economy, e.g. food, medicine, light industry, aerospace, agriculture, animal husbandry and fishery. Sea-buckthorn leaves contain several biologically active substances, mainly including more than twenty types of flavonoids and polyphenolic substances, alkaloid (5-hydroxytryptamine and SOD), vitamins C, E, A, B1, B2, K and carotin, trace elements, calcium, iron, zinc, ketone, selenium, amino acids (including 8 kinds of essential amino acids which are not contained by foods and which can't be synthesized by the human body).
